Colton Dach Returns Home to Edmonton Oilers in NHL Trade

Stan Bowman, general manager of the Edmonton Oilers, has infused a dose of hometown spirit into the team just before the NHL trade deadline. In a strategic move, Bowman secured former Chicago Blackhawks forward Colton Dach, a player he originally drafted during his tenure in Chicago. This acquisition marks a homecoming for Dach, who hails from St. Albert, Alberta, and is set to make his debut with the Oilers in an upcoming game against the Carolina Hurricanes.

A Physical Presence on the Ice

At 23 years old, Colton Dach stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 218 pounds, bringing a formidable physical presence to the Oilers roster. During his time with the Blackhawks this season, he led the team with 189 hits in just 53 games, placing him among the top 10 in the NHL for hits. Dach emphasizes that his playing style revolves around using his size to his advantage, particularly in forechecking to wear down opposing defensemen.

"I think it's a great opportunity, I'm super excited to be here," Dach expressed. "I'm just going to try to bring some physicality, some energy and use my size to my advantage, knowing my game and just using my assets to my advantage."

Family Excitement and Childhood Memories

The trade has sparked immense joy within Dach's family, with his parents and sister securing tickets for his Oilers debut. His older brother, Kirby Dach, is a forward for the Montreal Canadiens, adding a sibling rivalry element to the NHL landscape. Reflecting on his childhood, Dach shared nostalgic memories of attending Oilers games and even touring the locker room at Rexall Place, thanks to former player Sheldon Souray.

"It's pretty crazy. I think my mom and dad, they were probably the two most excited people on the planet yesterday when they found out," Dach said. "We were diehard Oilers fans. It was a 30-minute drive to come in and watch the games, so it was pretty cool."

Strategic Additions Ahead of the Deadline

Colton Dach is part of a trio of former Blackhawks joining the Oilers, alongside defenseman Connor Murphy and forward Jason Dickinson. This group transition highlights Bowman's focus on bolstering the team's roster with experienced players as they gear up for the latter part of the season. Dach noted the camaraderie among the newcomers, expressing satisfaction in having familiar faces from Chicago alongside him in Edmonton.

The acquisition of Colton Dach not only strengthens the Oilers' physical gameplay but also reconnects the team with its local roots, offering fans a hometown hero to rally behind as the season progresses.
