With the holiday season in full swing, the Calgary Flames have compiled a unique wishlist. However, these desired gifts aren't found in any store. In a festive locker-room poll conducted in late December 2025, players were asked a revealing question: If you could take one trait from any teammate, what would it be?
From Wrist Shots to Unflappable Confidence
The responses highlighted the diverse and elite skill set within the Flames' roster. Many players immediately pointed to the offensive prowess of their colleagues. Winger Connor Zary didn't hesitate, stating, "I'd take Matty's shot. He gets it off quick and he gets a lot of power on it." Forward Morgan Frost also acknowledged the allure of Matt Coronato's scoring touch but ultimately chose a different elite talent.
Frost instead selected the playmaking genius of Jonathan Huberdeau. "I'll go with Huby's passing ability," Frost explained. "Playing with him, you just have to get open. He's just so calm with the puck and I think he sees a lot of plays that other people don't. He has that extra 0.5 seconds that he can hold onto it."
Physical Gifts and Mental Fortitude
The wishlist extended beyond puck skills to include physical and mental attributes. Veteran forward Nazem Kadri went "off the board" with his choice, expressing envy for Ryan Lomberg's physique. "He has about 2.5% body fat and not all of us can roll like that, you know?" Kadri quipped. "I'd like to take my shirt off a little more."
Defenceman MacKenzie Weegar admired Kadri's mental approach, stating he'd take "Naz's care level." Weegar elaborated, "Nothing bothers him. It's just kind of into the back of his head and he goes on to the next shift. Usually, I sit on things a little bit and I get heated. And his confidence level, that's even better."
The Most Unique Request: "Frosty's Hips"
Perhaps the most distinctive answer came from Weegar, who also praised the agility of center Morgan Frost. "Oh, and Frosty's hips. I love Frosty's hips," Weegar said with a smile. "If you just watch him, coming up the neutral zone on the power play or if he's winding up, he opens up the hips and he starts going. He has loose hips. If I had a Christmas wishlist, I'd need some of those."
Other notable wishes included Blake Coleman's multi-faceted request for Lomberg's toughness, Coronato's shot, Huberdeau's playmaking, and Mikael Backlund's defensive IQ, joking it would help him "make a lot more money." Jonathan Huberdeau himself wished for the speed of Ryan Lomberg, nicknaming him the "Lomberghini."
The poll, conducted as the team prepared for the holiday break, offered a lighthearted yet insightful look at the mutual respect among Flames players. It underscored that even at the professional level, athletes recognize and covet the special talents their peers bring to the ice every day.
