BC Lions QB Nathan Rourke Focuses on 2026 Grey Cup, Not Awards History
Rourke Targets 2026 Grey Cup, Not CFL Awards History

BC Lions quarterback Nathan Rourke has made it clear that his primary goal for the 2026 CFL season is to win the Grey Cup, not to chase individual awards or make league history. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Rourke emphasized that team success is his sole focus as he prepares for the upcoming campaign.

Team Over Individual Glory

"I'm not worried about awards or breaking records," Rourke said. "My only focus is on winning the Grey Cup. That's what matters to me and to this team." The 28-year-old signal-caller, who has already established himself as one of the league's top quarterbacks, is entering his fourth season with the Lions. Despite impressive statistics in previous years, including a league-leading passing yards total in 2024, Rourke has yet to capture a championship.

"We've come close before, but close isn't good enough," he added. "This year, we have the pieces in place to make a serious run." The Lions finished second in the West Division last season, falling to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the division final.

Offseason Preparations

Rourke has spent the offseason working on his game, focusing on footwork and decision-making. "I've been watching a lot of film, working with our offensive coordinator to refine our schemes," he explained. "We have a talented group of receivers and a strong offensive line. It's my job to put them in position to succeed."

Head coach Rick Campbell praised Rourke's leadership and dedication. "Nathan is a true competitor," Campbell said. "He leads by example, and his commitment to winning is contagious. Our entire team is rallying behind him."

Looking Ahead

The Lions open their regular season on June 14 against the Calgary Stampeders. Rourke is expected to start and will look to build chemistry with new additions to the receiving corps. "We have a tough schedule, but we're ready," Rourke stated. "Every game matters, and we need to start strong."

When asked about the possibility of setting new CFL records, Rourke shrugged off the question. "Records are nice, but they don't mean anything without a championship. My legacy will be defined by what we achieve as a team."
