The Toronto Blue Jays staged a remarkable comeback from a 5-0 deficit to defeat the Baltimore Orioles 6-5 on Friday night at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, climbing back to a .500 record for the first time since early April.
Bullpen game struggles early
With the starting rotation still awaiting key pieces, the Blue Jays turned to another bullpen game. Adam Macko made his first career start as an opener, lasting just 1.2 innings. Austin Voth followed but struggled, walking four batters and surrendering three home runs over 3.1 innings, allowing the Orioles to build a 5-0 lead.
Despite the early deficit, the Blue Jays' offense came alive in the seventh inning. Kazuma Okamoto launched his team-leading 12th home run, a two-run shot, and rookie Charles McAdoo followed with a two-run homer to right field in his MLB debut, cutting the lead to 5-4.
In the eighth inning, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. delivered a two-run double to give the Blue Jays a 6-5 lead.
McAdoo's memorable debut
Charles McAdoo, making his major league debut at second base, turned a double play in the first inning and later hit his first career home run. The rookie is a distant cousin of NBA legend Bob McAdoo.
Closer Braydon Fisher navigated a tense ninth inning, retiring the first two batters before a fielding error by Ernie Clement put the tying run on base. Clement redeemed himself by fielding a grounder to secure the final out.
Up next
The Blue Jays will send right-hander Trey Yesavage to the mound on Saturday. Yesavage has been sharp in his last three starts, pitching at least six innings each time. The Orioles will counter with right-hander Brandon Young (3-1, 3.37 ERA).
