The University of Alberta's Abby Guezen and Ryder Rattee have been named the U Sports female and male athletes of the year, sweeping the top national honors at a ceremony in Calgary on Wednesday.
Recognition of Excellence
Guezen, a standout in women's hockey, and Rattee, a track and field star, were honored for their exceptional performances during the 2025-2026 season. The awards were presented at the U Sports annual banquet, celebrating the best in Canadian university sports.
Abby Guezen's Achievements
Guezen led the University of Alberta Pandas to a national championship, scoring the game-winning goal in the final. She was also named the tournament MVP and finished the season as the leading scorer in the conference.
Ryder Rattee's Achievements
Rattee dominated the track and field circuit, winning gold in the 100-meter and 200-meter sprints at the U Sports national championships. He also set a new Canadian university record in the 200 meters.
The duo's success highlights the strength of the University of Alberta's athletic programs, which continue to produce top-tier talent on the national stage.
