Knights and Red Raiders Sweep WECSSAA Top Athlete Awards

Anna Pozzi of the Holy Names Knights continued a family tradition by being named WECSSAA girls' athlete of the year for large schools on June 23, 2026, a year after her sister Jane Pozzi won the same award. The 18-year-old Pozzi, who played basketball, soccer, and volleyball, was league MVP in soccer and a first-team all-star in both basketball and soccer, while helping the Knights to a WECSSAA volleyball title. She will attend Western University in the fall to play soccer and study Kinesiology.

Family Legacy and City-Wide Recognition

“Seeing her, and she’s won athletics awards and I’ve always followed those in the Holy Names community, but this was more a city-wide award,” Pozzi said. “After she won, I was proud, but after I was told I had won, I was just very happy and I’d like to continue to follow in her footsteps.”

Holy Names also swept the boys' large school award with Ty Vidamour winning. The Essex Red Raiders claimed both small school awards: Ava Harrison on the girls' side and Caleb Cavanagh on the boys' side.

Three-Sport Standouts

The 18-year-old Vidamour was a three-sport athlete in football, soccer, and hockey. He was league MVP in football and a first-team all-star in hockey and soccer, leading the Knights to a WECSSAA football title and an OFSAA Bowl victory. “There have been a lot of great athletes that have won this award and, to be part of it, is really cool,” Vidamour said. He plans to return to Holy Names for Grade 12.

Harrison, the only Grade 11 winner, played badminton, basketball, slo-pitch, tennis, track and field, and volleyball, earning first-team all-star status in basketball and slo-pitch. “Athletics is like my life,” Harrison said. “I don’t know what I would do without it.” Cavanagh, 18, competed in volleyball, hockey, and track and field, and was a second-team all-star in hockey and volleyball. He will study Kinesiology at the University of Windsor and hopes to join the track and field team.

Bursaries and Future Plans

Each winner received a $500 bursary from award sponsor Stephen Ademolu to further their education. The ceremony took place at the Ciociaro Club.
