Spitfires' Woodall Named OHL Humanitarian of the Year for Woody's Hoodies
Spitfires' Woodall Wins OHL Humanitarian of the Year

The Windsor Spitfires' defenceman, Carson Woodall, has been honored with the Dan Snyder Memorial Trophy as the Ontario Hockey League's Humanitarian of the Year. This marks the first time a Spitfire has received the award since its introduction in 1993.

Recognition for Community Work

The 19-year-old Woodall was recognized for his outstanding charitable efforts through his initiative, Woody's Hoodies, which has raised more than $175,000 for cancer research in less than two years. Woodall expressed his gratitude and hope that the award would bring further awareness to his cause.

"I'm just hoping that this award can bring some awareness to it and we can do more with Woody's Hoodies in the future," Woodall said in a team release. "I'm thankful for all the support I've received and have really enjoyed doing the work."

Other Finalists and Achievements

Thanasi Marentette, a defenceman for the Peterborough Petes, was also a finalist for his Marentette's Mission, which provides essential resources for underprivileged individuals and families in the Peterborough area.

Woodall, a former 10th-round pick by the Spitfires from Belle River, was also a finalist for the OHL's Max Kaminsky Trophy, awarded to the league's top defenceman. He finished second in scoring among defencemen with 12 goals and 63 points in 68 regular-season games. The award went to Barrie's Kashawn Aitcheson.

Praise from Management

Spitfires' general manager Bill Bowler praised Woodall's character and impact. "His initiative, with Woody's Hoodies, speaks volumes about his character and the values instilled by his family," Bowler said in a release. "He's not only made an impact on the ice, but in the community as well, and that's something we're incredibly proud of."

Woodall, who is expected to attend Boston College in the fall, will be formally presented with the award in June at the OHL Awards Ceremony, held at the Hockey Hall of Fame.
