Joseph Woll Bids Emotional Farewell to Maple Leafs After Trade to Flyers
Joseph Woll Says Goodbye to Maple Leafs, Toronto in Instagram Post

Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll has officially said goodbye to the city and the team that drafted him, posting a heartfelt message on Instagram a week after being traded to the Philadelphia Flyers.

Woll's Instagram Farewell

In a post on Tuesday, Woll wrote: “From the bottom of my heart, thank you to the organization, the city, my friends and especially, my teammates for helping make my time in Toronto so special. I have enough memories to last a lifetime. I’ll forever be proud and grateful for my time with the Leafs.” He accompanied the message with a photo of himself stepping onto the ice at Scotiabank Arena and signed off with a maple leaf emoji and the phrase “Philly, get ready.”

The trade, which occurred last Tuesday, sent Woll and defenceman Simon Benoit to the Flyers in exchange for defenceman Emil Andrae, goalie Samuel Ersson, and a third-round pick in the 2026 NHL draft.

Impact on Maple Leafs' Goaltending

With Woll's departure, the Maple Leafs now have Anthony Stolarz, Dennis Hildeby, and Artur Akhtyamov as their goaltending options heading into next season. The team is expected to push for a playoff spot after missing the post-season in 2025-26 for the first time in a decade.

Speculation has arisen that Toronto may have interest in 37-year-old netminder Sergei Bobrovsky, who is headed for unrestricted free agency on July 1. Bobrovsky had a tough season with the Florida Panthers, posting a career-worst .877 save percentage in 52 games.

Woll's Career with the Leafs

Woll, who will turn 28 in July, was selected by Toronto in the third round of the 2016 draft. He played in parts of five seasons with the Leafs, appearing in 117 games and compiling a record of 63-43-9 with a .906 save percentage. Inconsistent health was a recurring issue for Woll during his tenure in Toronto.

Benoit Also Says Goodbye

Defenceman Simon Benoit also posted a farewell on Instagram over the weekend. “Thank you to the organization for everything on and off the ice, to my teammates, the staff, the fans for an unforgettable journey and for always making me feel at home,” Benoit wrote. “I will always be grateful for the opportunity the Leafs gave me! Excited and ready to give Philly everything I’ve got!”

Benoit played three seasons with the Leafs after signing as a free agent in the summer of 2023, recording 21 points and 156 penalty minutes in 215 games.
