The Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) announced on Tuesday that Montreal Victoire goaltender Ann-Renee Desbiens has been nominated for the Goaltender of the Year award for the second straight season. She will compete against Boston Fleet's Aerin Frankel and Minnesota Frost's Maddie Rooney for the honor.
Desbiens' Stellar Season
Desbiens, a 31-year-old native of La Malbaie, Quebec, posted an impressive 13-6-1 record during the regular season, leading the league with a 1.89 goals-against average and a .932 save percentage. Her outstanding performance helped the Victoire secure a playoff berth and earned her recognition as one of the top netminders in the league.
Competition Heats Up
Frankel, 26, finished the season with a 12-5-2 record, a 2.01 GAA, and a .928 save percentage for Boston, while Rooney, 27, recorded a 10-7-3 mark, a 2.15 GAA, and a .921 save percentage for Minnesota. All three goaltenders have been instrumental in their teams' successes this season.
Award History
Desbiens won the inaugural Goaltender of the Year award last season, becoming the first recipient of the trophy. She will look to become the first back-to-back winner when the award is announced during the PWHL's end-of-season awards ceremony scheduled for June 3.
The winner is selected by a panel of media members and league officials, based on regular-season performance. The PWHL continues to showcase elite talent, with goaltending being a standout position in the league's second season.
