The 2026 Canadian Baton Twirling Championships and Maple Leaf Open are underway in Regina, co-hosted by the Saskatchewan Baton Twirling Association and the Canadian Baton Twirling Federation. The event runs from July 1 to 5 at the University of Regina's Centre for Kinesiology, Health and Sport.
Over 250 athletes compete for national titles
More than 250 athletes from across Canada have gathered in the Queen City to compete for national titles in individual, duet, and group events across various age categories. The competition features routines that include spins, flips, tosses, and catches, with athletes judged on precision, artistry, and technical difficulty.
Regina Leader-Post photojournalist Heywood Yu captured the action on Thursday, July 2, 2026, as competitors took the floor. Among the participants were Malia Briere, Brynn Hicke, Lila Day, Alexandra Maley, Paislee Blanchard, Madeleine Blanchard, Leah Baraniuk, and Gwynn Taylor.
Highlights from the competition floor
Brynn Hicke performed a jump and later executed a handstand during her routine. Lila Day demonstrated a handstand and a neck roll with the baton. Leah Baraniuk showcased a neck roll, while Gwynn Taylor spun the baton with precision. Madeleine Blanchard and Paislee Blanchard also delivered strong performances.
Spectators watched intently as Alexandra Maley performed, and the atmosphere was electric with the sound of batons clicking and music playing. The championships conclude on Sunday, July 5, at the University of Regina.
