Three Windsor drivers are facing impaired driving charges following separate incidents on Canada Day, according to Windsor Police Service. The arrests included a driver who took a wrong turn into Canada at the Ambassador Bridge and another involved in a drive-thru collision.
Wrong Turn at Ambassador Bridge Leads to Charge
The first incident occurred just before 4:30 a.m. on July 1, when Canada Border Services Agency officers at the Ambassador Bridge stopped a male driver who had taken a wrong turn into Canada. The disoriented driver allegedly had an odour of alcohol on his breath and failed to provide a breath sample when requested. He was transported to Windsor Police Service headquarters. The 31-year-old man was charged with failure to provide a breath sample.
Drive-Thru Collision Results in Impaired Charges
Officers responded to a report of a collision at a restaurant drive-thru in the 2500 block of Tecumseh Road East at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The driver allegedly displayed multiple signs of impairment, including poor balance, bloodshot eyes and an odour of alcohol on his breath. A 42-year-old man now faces one count each of impaired operation of a vehicle and operation of a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit.
Driver Found Passed Out Behind Wheel
The third driver was arrested just after 1 a.m. on July 2, when officers responded to a report of a male passed out inside a vehicle in the 1700 block of Shepherd Street East.
