York Regional Police have charged a 39-year-old Vaughan man with 17 offences in connection with a series of break-and-enters at condominiums and are seeking a second suspect.
Suspects Used Glue to Test Occupancy
Authorities previously issued a public warning as part of this investigation, alerting residents to suspects who were gaining access to condos and apartment buildings by using a glue-like substance on unit doors throughout the buildings. Police say the suspects would later check to see whether the glue had been disturbed in order to determine if the units were occupied before committing the break-ins.
Arrest and Charges
On Thursday, investigators executed search warrants at a residence and a vehicle in Vaughan. Malkhazi Khutsishvili was charged with nine counts of break and enter with intent, six counts of fail to comply with judicial release order, possession of break-in instruments, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
When he was arrested, the first suspect was legally required to stay at home between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. At the time of the offences, Khutsishvili was bound by a judicial release order that required him to remain at his residence between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.
