Barkley dares ESPN to fire him over Cardi B joke

Charles Barkley, the outspoken NBA analyst on TNT's Inside the NBA, has once again stirred controversy with his candid remarks. During Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden, Barkley commented on rapper Cardi B's halftime performance, joking about her breast size. The comment, which he later defended as harmless humor, has sparked a mix of reactions.

Barkley's Controversial Comment

As Cardi B performed at halftime on Monday night, Barkley remarked, "I don't know if those B's. Those might be Cardi D's." The rapper responded on X by sharing that both their names were trending. Barkley, when asked about the comment on The Dan Patrick Show, dismissed criticism, saying, "Come on, man, people can't take a joke? They can kiss my ass."

Daring ESPN to Fire Him

During the interview, Barkley revealed he hopes ESPN would terminate his contract, allowing him to collect the remaining six to seven years of his salary without working. "Dan, you know, I'm hoping they fire me," Barkley said. "I got six or seven years left on my contract that they know I've got no chance of doing. I would love for them to fire me and have to pay me for the next six or seven years." He added that he discussed with his agent how to get fired while ensuring full payment.

Barkley, 63, acknowledged the improbability of working the full term, stating, "There's zero chance I'm gonna be working the next six, seven years. Zero." He also noted that he heard through the grapevine that he makes "great money," making the prospect of being fired financially appealing.

Criticism of the Spurs

Barkley's outspoken nature extended to Game 4, where the Knicks mounted a historic 29-point comeback to take a 3-1 series lead. On Inside the NBA, he lambasted the Spurs' performance, calling it "the dumbest basketball team in the history of civilization." He said, "That was some of the most mismanaged, stupid basketball. When you blow a 29-point lead, the other team has to help you. The San Antonio Spurs helped the New York Knicks win this game by doing some of the stupidest a** stuff I've seen on a basketball court."

Game 5 is set for Saturday night in San Antonio, and fans can expect more unfiltered commentary from Barkley.
