As the first anniversary of a tragic crash nears, the volleyball community is honoring one of the four teens killed. Danica Baker, 16, from Walkerton, Ont., died alongside three other teenagers and their coach in a collision near Dorchester, Ont., on May 23, 2025.

Remembering Danica Baker

Danica was described as a 'stand up kid' by her volleyball family. To keep her memory alive, they have established a memorial bursary in her name. The bursary aims to support young athletes who share Danica's passion for the sport.

The bursary has garnered support from local businesses and community members. It will provide financial assistance to volleyball players in the Walkerton area, ensuring Danica's legacy continues to inspire future generations.

Danica's family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and the initiative to create a lasting tribute. 'She loved volleyball and her teammates. This bursary is a beautiful way to honor her,' her mother said.

The crash also claimed the lives of three other teens: Emma, 17; Liam, 16; and Sophia, 15; along with their coach, Mark, 34. The community continues to mourn and support each other through this difficult time.
