Blue Jays Add Voth to Roster
The Toronto Blue Jays have selected right-handed pitcher Austin Voth to their major-league roster, the team announced Wednesday. Voth, who had been pitching in the minor leagues, will join the Blue Jays bullpen immediately.
Voth, 32, has appeared in 13 games for the Blue Jays' Triple-A affiliate this season, posting a 3.18 ERA with 22 strikeouts over 17 innings. He has previous major-league experience with the Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles, compiling a 4.74 ERA in 116 career appearances.
The move comes as the Blue Jays look to strengthen their pitching staff amid a stretch of tight games. Manager John Schneider expressed confidence in Voth's ability to contribute, citing his experience and recent performance.
To make room on the 40-man roster, the Blue Jays transferred left-handed pitcher Tim Mayza to the 60-day injured list. Mayza has been sidelined with a shoulder issue since early May.
Voth is expected to be available for Thursday's game against the Chicago White Sox.
