THORNHILL, Ont. — Calgary's Wes Heffernan is tied for the lead entering the final round of the PGA Assistants' Championship of Canada presented by Callaway Golf at Bayview Golf & Country Club.
After two demanding days in difficult scoring conditions, two-time champion Heffernan and Vancouver's Khan Lee are atop the leaderboard at 2-under heading into Thursday's final round.
Strong Start, Tough Second Round
Heffernan, the 2019 and 2024 champion, followed his opening-round, bogey-free 66 with a 74 on Wednesday as windy conditions and firm greens made Bayview an increasingly stern test for the field.
“I drove it very poorly today,” said Heffernan, of the Dynamic Motion Golf Performance Centre. “I probably hit two fairways today. Just out of position all day and struggling to get it close.”
The 49-year-old managed to stay in the title hunt at the PGA of Canada event largely due to the cushion created by his stellar opening round.
Lee's Steady Approach
Meanwhile, Lee continued his steady play by matching his first-round 70 while focusing more on avoiding mistakes than chasing birdies.
“Just try to keep it in the fairway and give yourself a look,” Lee said. “One step at a time.”
As the wind intensified throughout Wednesday's back nine, Lee stayed disciplined and refused to force aggressive shots.
“I wasn't trying to make birdies,” Lee added. “Birdies are just a bonus. Don't get too greedy because it never works out.”
Walter Keating, of Thunder Bay, Ont., is a shot back of the leaders.
