Blue Jays' Ernie Clement honoured with hometown day

For fans of the Toronto Blue Jays, infielder Ernie Clement is a daily source of celebration. But for his hometown community in Monroe County, New York, one specific day now officially bears his name.

A Hometown Hero Honoured

On Saturday, November 29, 2025, Clement was formally honoured during an event with the Minor League Baseball team, the Rochester Red Wings. Monroe County Executive Adam Bello presented Clement with a key to the county, while officials proclaimed the date as "Ernie Clement Day." The tribute recognized the Brighton, New York native's extraordinary performance during the Blue Jays' thrilling run to Game 7 of the World Series.

"Ernie, we are incredibly proud of you, and you represented your hometown so well on the world stage," Bello said during the ceremony. He praised Clement as "a beacon of positivity" who carries his community's spirit onto the field.

Record-Setting Postseason Performance

The honour comes on the heels of Clement's historic playoff performance. He set a new Major League Baseball record for most hits in a single postseason, with 30, as the Blue Jays came within two outs of winning the championship. His defensive prowess was also recognized this year with two Gold Glove award nominations, at third base and as a utility player.

Rochester Mayor Malik Evans echoed the community's pride, stating, "We gotta represent and honor our hometown heroes." A visibly moved Clement expressed his gratitude to the Rochester area for its unwavering support throughout his career in college, the minor leagues, and the majors.

Community Ties and Viral Moments

Clement's deep connection to his roots was further highlighted by recent events. Just one day after the heartbreaking end of the World Series, he was spotted at the Pittsford Pub, a local favourite, wearing casual attire and enjoying chicken wings while watching his beloved Buffalo Bills play. He happily signed autographs and took photos with young fans, demonstrating his approachable nature.

His community involvement extends beyond baseball. Last month, Clement finished an impressive seventh at the inaugural MLB Open golf tournament in Las Vegas, teaming up with Blue Jays legend Joe Carter and charming spectators with his positive attitude. His athletic background is diverse; he was a multi-sport star at Brighton High School, where he notably scored 70 goals in 79 hockey games.

The proclamation of Ernie Clement Day solidifies his status not just as a Toronto Blue Jays standout, but as a cherished figure in the Rochester community that helped shape him.
