Mango Founder's Son Arrested in Father's Fatal Fall

Police in Spain have arrested Jonathan Andic, the son of Isak Andic, the billionaire founder of the fashion chain Mango, on suspicion of involvement in his father's death. The arrest, carried out by the Catalan regional police force Mossos d'Esquadra, took place on May 19, 2026, following a reopened investigation that cast doubt on the initial accidental death ruling.

The Fatal Incident

Isak Andic, 71, died in December 2024 after falling approximately 150 meters down a ravine while hiking with his son Jonathan in the mountains of Montserrat, near Barcelona. Initially, Catalan police closed the investigation weeks later, deeming the death an accident, with Jonathan as the sole witness. However, inconsistencies in his statements and emerging evidence prompted authorities to re-examine the case, leading to its reopening in March 2025.

Investigation and Arrest

By October 2025, authorities confirmed the death was being investigated as a possible homicide. Spanish media outlets had reported a tense relationship between father and son, suggesting a serious argument occurred shortly before the incident. Jonathan, 45, the eldest of Isak's three children and one of his heirs, was arrested on Tuesday, according to a Mossos d'Esquadra source. The case is under a nondisclosure order. He is expected to appear before a judge in Martorell, a city in eastern Spain where the investigation is centered.

Family Response

A spokesperson for the Andic family confirmed Jonathan was being questioned in connection with his father's death, as reported by The Guardian. The family had previously stated, "The Andic family has not and will not comment on Isak Andic's death in all these months. However, they wish to show their respect for the ongoing investigations and will continue to cooperate with the relevant authorities, as they have done so far. They are also confident that this process will be concluded as soon as possible and that Jonathan Andic's innocence will be proved."
