Kerry-Lynne Findlay has been voted the new leader of the B.C. Conservative Party.
The race was tight on Saturday, with Findlay securing 51 per cent of the vote. Her closest challenger, Caroline Elliott, finished second with 49 per cent.
Findlay will replace interim leader Trevor Halford, who stepped in after former leader John Rustad resigned.
Campaign Promises
Findlay's campaign promises include cutting taxes, removing SOGI (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity) curriculum from schools, and implementing harsher consequences for criminals, including extortionists.
According to her website, Findlay stated: "B.C. Liberal insiders are trying to take over the Conservative Party of B.C. The Liberals want to steal the Conservative name … and push the same hidden Liberal agenda."
Leadership Race
There were five candidates in the leadership race: Findlay, Elliott, Iain Black, Yuri Fulmer, and Peter Milobar.
Findlay served in cabinet under Prime Minister Stephen Harper and was the chief opposition whip under the leadership of Pierre Poilievre. She says as leader, she will unite the B.C. party and uphold Conservative values.
