A recent poll indicates that Alberta Premier Danielle Smith's approval rating has fallen to its lowest level since she assumed office.
Smith's approval rating dropped to 39 per cent in the second quarter of 2026, a decline of seven points from the previous quarter, according to data released by the Angus Reid Institute on Thursday.
The poll reveals that Smith retains the approval of seven in ten past United Conservative Party voters, while one-quarter of former UCP supporters disapprove of her performance.
This decline follows weeks of controversy surrounding the Alberta government's plan to include a question about Alberta's future within Canada as part of its October referendum.
More details are expected to emerge as the debate intensifies.
