Vandals have targeted a construction site in Guelph for the second time, causing significant damage to vehicles and property. The incident occurred overnight on June 23, 2026, at a residential development under construction in the city's south end.
Details of the Incident
According to Guelph Police Service, officers responded to a call around 6:30 a.m. on June 24 after workers arrived to find several vehicles with slashed tires, broken windows, and graffiti spray-painted on construction equipment. The damage is estimated at over $50,000, police said.
This is the second such incident at the same site in the past month. In late May, vandals caused similar damage, with repairs costing approximately $30,000. Police believe the two incidents may be connected and are investigating whether they are part of a targeted campaign against the developer.
Police Investigation
Constable Sarah Miller of the Guelph Police Service stated, "We are taking this very seriously. The repeated nature of these attacks suggests someone is intentionally trying to disrupt construction. We are asking anyone with information or surveillance footage to come forward."
Police have increased patrols in the area and are reviewing security camera footage from nearby businesses. No suspects have been identified yet, and the investigation is ongoing.
Impact on Construction
The construction site, which is part of a larger housing development, has faced delays due to the vandalism. Project manager Tom Richards said, "This is a setback. We've had to replace equipment and repair vehicles, which pushes back our timeline. We're cooperating fully with police to ensure this stops."
The developer has offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
