Separatists Told to Stay Away from Canada Day
In a pointed letter published Tuesday, Edmonton resident Carrie Savage of Spruce Grove directly addressed Alberta separatists, cordially inviting them to refrain from attending any Canada Day celebrations this year. Savage urged them to avoid pancake breakfasts, birthday cake, parade candy, bouncy houses, free concerts, and fireworks displays, stating they no longer respect what these events represent.
Westmount Heritage Rezoning Opposed
Another letter from Lori Hodgson of Edmonton criticized a proposed rezoning to medium-scale residential in the Westmount Architectural Heritage Area. Hodgson argued that the area was designated to protect heritage resources and any non-conforming development undermines its historical significance. She stated that council should not allow changes that destroy the unique character of the residential neighborhood.
Elks Equipment Manager Honored
Toni and Phillip Gold of Edmonton praised the Edmonton Elks for honoring longtime equipment manager Dwayne Mandrusiak during a halftime show, recognizing over 50 years of service. They described Mandrusiak as a loyal figure who bleeds green and commands unprecedented respect from past and present team members. The couple congratulated him on a long-overdue tribute.
