Homicide team probes man's death in West Vancouver

West Vancouver police are investigating a man's death as suspicious, with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) now leading the probe. The incident occurred in the 600 block of 15th Street, where officers responded to a report of an unresponsive man on June 24, 2026.

Details of the incident

Upon arrival, first responders found a man in his 30s who was pronounced dead at the scene. The BC Coroners Service has been notified and is working alongside IHIT. Police have not released the man's identity pending notification of next of kin.

IHIT spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Pierotti stated, "We are in the early stages of this investigation and are working to determine the circumstances surrounding this death. We are appealing to anyone who may have information to come forward."

Investigation and community impact

The area was cordoned off as forensic teams conducted a thorough examination. Neighbors reported hearing no disturbances, but police are canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses and surveillance footage.

West Vancouver Police Chief Constable John Paivarinta said, "This is a tragic event, and our thoughts are with the family. We are dedicating all necessary resources to assist IHIT in their investigation."

The death marks the first homicide in West Vancouver in 2026. The municipality typically sees very few violent crimes, with only one homicide reported in 2025.
