A driver has been charged in a fatal collision that occurred on Highway 17 in Northern Ontario in February, according to Ontario Provincial Police.
Details of the Incident
The crash took place on February 15, 2026, on Highway 17 near the town of Nipigon, approximately 150 kilometres northeast of Thunder Bay. Police responded to reports of a two-vehicle collision at approximately 3:30 p.m. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, while two others were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Following an investigation, OPP charged a 34-year-old driver from Thunder Bay with dangerous driving causing death and criminal negligence causing death. The accused is scheduled to appear in court in Thunder Bay on July 20, 2026.
