Windsor Man Charged in Vehicle Theft After Break-In

Windsor police have charged a 34-year-old man following an alleged break-in and vehicle theft that unfolded over several days in April. The suspect is accused of entering a residence on the east side, taking a spare vehicle key, and then returning days later to steal the car.

Incident Details

According to police, the first incident occurred on April 16 when a home in the 600 block of University Avenue East was broken into. Several items were stolen, including a spare key to a vehicle parked at the residence.

On April 24, just before 8 a.m., a man wearing a black bandana over his face used the stolen key to enter the homeowner's vehicle and drove away in it. Police located the stolen vehicle less than an hour later in an alley behind a building in the 300 block of Bruce Avenue.

Investigation and Arrest

Investigators from the Windsor Police Service target base unit identified a suspect in connection with the theft. Later that day, just before 3:30 p.m., officers arrested the man in the 900 block of Ouellette Avenue.

The suspect faces a series of charges, including:

  • Two counts of possession of property obtained by crime (one over $5,000 and one under $5,000)
  • One count of theft of a motor vehicle
  • One count of wearing a disguise with intent to commit a crime
  • Two counts of operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited
  • Two counts of breach of probation
