Edmonton police have issued a public appeal for witnesses following a severe multi-vehicle collision on Sunday afternoon that sent three people to hospital, including a woman who sustained life-threatening injuries.

Details of the Collision

The incident occurred at approximately 2:34 p.m. on Sunday, November 13, 2025, at the intersection of 97 Street and 167 Avenue. According to a news release from the Edmonton Police Service issued on Wednesday, the crash involved three vehicles.

Police reported that a Mazda 3 was traveling northbound on 97 Street and initiated a left turn onto 167 Avenue. As the Mazda cleared the intersection, the traffic signal turned red. At that moment, a Toyota Camry traveling southbound on 97 Street collided with the Mazda.

The force of the impact was substantial. It caused the Mazda to spin and strike a third vehicle, identified as a Hyundai Elantra, before finally coming to a stop after hitting a power box.

Injuries and Hospitalizations

The consequences of the high-speed crash were severe for the driver of the Mazda 3. A 31-year-old woman was transported from the scene by Emergency Medical Services with what authorities described as life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Toyota Camry, a 27-year-old man, was also taken to the hospital. Fortunately, his injuries were reported as non-life-threatening. The driver of the third vehicle, the Hyundai Elantra, was transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

The EPS Major Collisions Investigation Section has taken charge of the case. Their initial assessment indicates that speed was a significant factor in the cause of this devastating crash.
