Windsor police were called to handle two separate barricade situations within hours on Wednesday, leading to the arrest of two men on assault and threat-related charges.
Evening Standoff on Wyandotte Street West
Officers from the Windsor Police Service responded to a residence in the 600 block of Wyandotte Street West shortly after 5 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, following a report of an assault.
According to police, a victim fled the home after being assaulted and threatened by a male suspect. The suspect allegedly made disturbing threats, including stating he would "burn the house down and set the victim’s cats on fire."
Police later determined the suspect was believed to be in possession of a loaded, homemade firearm capable of firing shotgun shells. Due to the elevated risk, the area was secured and the specialized Emergency Services Unit (ESU) was called to the scene.
After several hours of negotiations, the 34-year-old male suspect surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody without incident. The victim sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.
Charges Laid in First Incident
The man now faces several criminal charges, including:
- Assault
- Uttering threats to animals
- Uttering threats to damage property
Earlier Standoff in Devonshire Heights
This evening incident came just hours after police resolved another dangerous situation earlier the same day. Around 1 p.m., officers were called to a residence in the Devonshire Heights area for another reported assault.
In that case, one person reported fleeing a home after being assaulted and threatened by a male suspect. The suspect also allegedly threw the victim's dogs across a room and threatened to kill them.
That standoff lasted approximately three hours before the suspect surrendered peacefully around 4 p.m. A 40-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
