Arrest and Charges

Officers determined that a 35-year-old suspect had detonated at least one explosive device on his front lawn, causing a blast felt in nearby residences. Trained negotiators made multiple attempts to persuade the man to exit his home, but he refused. With the assistance of the Windsor Police Emergency Services Unit, Explosives Disposal Unit, and other specialized staff, officers eventually arrested the suspect without further incident.

The suspect now faces charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and mischief interfering with others’ enjoyment of property. As of Monday morning, investigators in hazardous material-resistant suits and oxygen tanks were seen entering and exiting the building, with a police forensic identification vehicle also present at the location.

Community Impact and Investigation

The standoff led to the evacuation of nearby residents as a safety measure, disrupting the community. Police have urged anyone with video or audio recordings of the explosions or additional information to contact Major Crimes investigators at 519-255-6700, ext. 4830, or anonymously through Windsor & Essex County Crime Stoppers at 519-258-8477 (TIPS) or online at www.catchcrooks.com.
