Vancouver police have launched a city-wide search for a driver who fled the scene after a collision that killed an 81-year-old pedestrian in East Vancouver. The incident occurred on Monday evening, December 22, 2025.
Details of the Fatal Collision
According to Vancouver Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Steve Addison, emergency crews were called to the intersection of Rupert Street and Euclid Avenue at approximately 6:30 p.m. after reports that a woman had been hit by a car.
The driver did not remain at the scene. The vehicle was last seen travelling northbound on Rupert Street. The victim, an 81-year-old woman, was transported to hospital with critical injuries but later succumbed to them.
Description of Suspect Vehicle
Investigators have identified the wanted vehicle as a dark grey, late 1990s model Volkswagen Golf. The car is believed to have significant damage from the collision.
The driver-side mirror is missing, and there is likely damage to the driver-side front bumper, headlight, and front fender. Police are urging mechanics, body shops, and the public to be on the lookout for a vehicle matching this description.

The Vancouver Police Department is making a direct appeal to the public for assistance. Investigators are particularly interested in any dashcam or security video footage from Rupert Street between Kingsway and East 29th Avenue around the time of the incident.
