Ottawa Police Investigate Reports of Armed Suspect in New Edinburgh
Ottawa police probe armed suspect reports

Ottawa police launched a significant response on Thursday afternoon following numerous reports of an individual seen with a firearm in a residential neighbourhood.

Police Flood Neighbourhood After 911 Calls

The incident began unfolding at approximately 3 p.m. on Thursday, November 21, 2024, when police communications centres received several emergency calls. The reports centred on a person spotted with a weapon in the area of Stanley Avenue and Keefer Street, located in the city's historic New Edinburgh community.

In response to the serious nature of the calls, police units flooded the area to conduct an intensive search for the suspect. Officers canvassed the neighbourhood, seeking any sign of the individual described by callers.

Search Concludes Without Locating Suspect

Despite the extensive police response, the search ultimately proved unsuccessful. No suspect was located during the operation. Furthermore, investigators stated they were unable to confirm a critical detail from the reports.

Detectives could not verify that a real firearm was involved in the incident, leaving open the possibility of a replica or airsoft weapon. The investigation remains active as police work to determine what exactly transpired.

Investigation Continues as Police Seek Tips

Authorities have reviewed closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the area, but the video evidence provided no concrete clues to advance the case. The Ottawa Police Service is now turning to the public for assistance.
