A residential duplex in Montreal's Notre-Dame-de-Grâce neighborhood has become the target of repeated arson attacks, with fire crews responding to a second suspicious blaze at the same property in what authorities believe is a deliberate campaign.
The latest incident occurred early Tuesday morning when Montreal police and firefighters were called to the building on Hampton Avenue near Sherbrooke St. W. around 3:30 a.m. This marks the second time in recent weeks that the property has been attacked by arsonists, raising serious concerns among residents and officials.
Pattern of Targeted Attacks
According to Montreal police spokesperson Véronique Dubuc, the circumstances clearly point to intentional wrongdoing. "We have reasons to believe it's arson," Dubuc confirmed, noting the suspicious nature of both fires at the identical location.
The first attack occurred on December 26, when firefighters discovered a deliberately set fire in the basement of the same duplex. The repeat targeting suggests the property or its occupants may be specifically singled out, though police have not disclosed potential motives.
Quick Response Prevents Catastrophe
Firefighters arriving at the scene found smoke coming from the basement area and quickly extinguished the flames before they could spread throughout the building. Their rapid intervention prevented what could have become a much more devastating situation for the residential structure and neighboring properties.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in either incident, though the psychological impact on residents and the broader community remains significant. The repeated attacks have left neighborhood residents feeling vulnerable and concerned about their safety.

"Investigators are on the scene and we're treating this as a criminal matter," Dubuc stated, emphasizing the seriousness with which authorities are treating the repeated attacks.
