Montreal Man with Extensive Criminal Past Fatally Shot in Kahnawake

Kyle Grabowski, a 40-year-old man from Montreal with a well-documented history of violent criminal activity, has been identified as the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred on Tuesday afternoon in Kahnawake. The incident took place in a parking lot behind Robbie's Smokehouse & Burger Bar on Route 138 shortly after 2:30 p.m.

Ongoing Investigation by Peacekeepers and SQ

The Kahnawake Peacekeepers, with assistance from the Sûreté du Québec, are actively investigating the homicide. Constable Kyle Zachary, a spokesperson for the Peacekeepers, confirmed Grabowski as the victim on Wednesday while stating the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have assured the public that there is no active threat to the community following the shooting.

Witnesses or individuals with information are urged to contact investigators at 450-632-6505.

Lengthy and Violent Criminal Record

Grabowski, also known as "K-Irish," had accumulated a significant criminal record over the years. Most recently, on September 9, 2025, he was sentenced to 179 days in prison after pleading guilty to drug possession at the Montreal courthouse.

His criminal history includes a particularly severe case from 2012, where he received a 10-year sentence after pleading guilty to a series of violent crimes. One of these crimes was a 2009 home invasion in St-Adolphe-d'Howard, carried out with his brother and two other men. During this invasion, the armed group tied up a young woman and assaulted her while demanding information about her brother, whom they accused of stealing cannabis from a grow operation.

Previous Investigations and Allegations

In January 2023, police investigating an attempted murder near a hotel in the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce neighbourhood executed a search warrant at Grabowski's residence. The search yielded six firearms and 19 kilograms of cannabis, leading to several charges that were eventually dropped. A judge granting bail in that case noted a lack of evidence linking Grabowski to the shooting and questioned the justification for the search.

Additionally, a 2023 decision by the Parole Board of Canada revealed that Grabowski was under investigation for allegedly offering a $10,000 bribe to police officers involved in the search to make 14 grams of cocaine disappear. No charges were ever filed in connection with this alleged bribery attempt.

Connection to Earlier Violent Incidents

Further details from his past include an arrest in Laval on May 29, 2009, where Grabowski got into a bar fight with three men, pulled a knife, and stabbed one of them. Laval police seized his clothing as evidence, which later provided a DNA match linking him to the St-Adolphe-d'Howard home invasion three months prior.

The investigation into Tuesday's shooting continues as authorities piece together the circumstances surrounding the death of this individual with a complex and violent background.
