Senators Swept from NHL Playoffs by Hurricanes

The Ottawa Senators saw their Stanley Cup playoff dreams come to an abrupt end as they were swept out of the first round by the Carolina Hurricanes, losing 4-2 in Game 4 at the Canadian Tire Centre on Saturday afternoon.

Heartbreaking End for Senators

"It's heartbreaking," said captain Brady Tkachuk, fighting back tears in an empty Ottawa dressing room. The Senators' offense vanished throughout the series, managing only four goals in four games, and their power play went 1-for-21, including 1-for-9 in Game 4.

Game 4 Recap

Sebastian Aho scored with Ottawa's net empty to give the Hurricanes a 3-1 lead, but Dylan Cozens pulled the Senators to within a goal with 1:41 left. Aho responded 34 seconds later with his second empty-net goal to seal the win. Drake Batherson also scored for the Senators.

Injuries Plague Senators

The Senators were without their top defensive pairing of Jake Sanderson (concussion) and Artem Zub (upper body injury). Rookie Carter Yakemchuk made his playoff debut and recorded two assists. Coach Travis Green noted, "We used 10 defencemen in four games in the series. I don't think I've ever heard of that."

Learning Experience

Alternate captain Thomas Chabot, his voice cracking, said, "There is not much to be said, to be honest. It's not what we wanted." He added, "It's a learning curve. It's just all too fresh right now."

Coach's Perspective

Despite the sweep, Coach Green believes the team has made significant progress. "I talked to the team, and I thought we probably played a lot better than last year, even though we lost four in a row. It was a different series, and I think we've taken a lot of steps this year to have a lot of belief to hopefully compete for a Stanley Cup."

While fans may find this assessment hard to accept, Green emphasized the strides made this season.
