Calgary Police Shooting Leads to Charges for 23-Year-Old Man at Dalhousie Station
Man shot by Calgary police at Dalhousie station now charged

A man who was shot by Calgary police earlier this week is now facing criminal charges related to the events that prompted the police intervention.

Incident at Dalhousie Station Parking Lot

On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at approximately 11:30 a.m., law enforcement was called to the parking lot of the Dalhousie CTrain station in northwest Calgary. The call was in response to reports of a man armed with a knife who was acting aggressively toward a peace officer.

Police located the individual, and an altercation ensued. The confrontation resulted in one Calgary Police Service member discharging their service firearm, striking the man. He was subsequently transported to hospital in serious but stable condition.

Charges Laid Following Investigation

Late Thursday afternoon, police announced that Cody Duquette, 23, has been charged in connection with the incident. The charges against him include:

  • Three counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon
  • One count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • One count of failure to comply with a release order

Duquette is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.

Police and Watchdog Response

Speaking shortly after the Tuesday incident, Calgary Police Chief Katie McClellan described the man's behaviour as "erratically." She noted that police officers frequently encounter situations that are unpredictable and can escalate rapidly, as this one did.

"Our members are well trained to deal with situations like these, and 99 per cent of the time they are resolved peacefully," Chief McClellan stated during a media briefing. She confirmed that no officers or bystanders were injured during the event.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT), the province's independent police watchdog, has taken over the investigation into the officer-involved shooting. This is standard procedure for incidents where police actions result in serious injury or death.

The case continues to develop as both the criminal charges against Duquette proceed and ASIRT conducts its independent review of the police response.
