A 26-year-old man from Prince Albert has been formally charged with attempted murder following a violent incident in Meadow Lake, where an RCMP officer was struck by a vehicle while attempting to deploy a spike belt during a high-speed pursuit. The event unfolded on March 23, around 1:30 p.m., after an officer tried to pull over a white SUV that had run a stop sign within the town limits.

According to an RCMP news release issued on Friday, the driver of the SUV refused to stop and instead accelerated toward Highway 55. The Meadow Lake RCMP Critical Response Team officer made multiple attempts to halt the vehicle, but the SUV continued to flee at a dangerously high rate of speed. In an effort to end the chase safely, an officer positioned a spike belt on Highway 4, north of the junction with Highway 55, which borders Meadow Lake to the north.
Tragically, while setting up the spike belt, the officer was struck by the SUV.
