Edmonton police have laid a second-degree murder charge following a fatal incident in the city's central neighbourhood last month. The charge is connected to the death of a 42-year-old man discovered in late November.
Charges Laid in Central Edmonton Killing
Keenan Antoine Singer Gladue, 26, was formally charged with second-degree murder on Tuesday in relation to the death of Burton Lee Gambler. The homicide investigation began on the evening of November 21, 2025, when patrol officers from the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) Community Safety Team found a deceased man with obvious injuries. The discovery was made near the intersection of 97 Street and 107 Avenue at approximately 8:52 p.m.
The victim was later identified as Burton Lee Gambler. An autopsy conducted on November 25 confirmed that the 42-year-old died as a result of homicide caused by sharp force injuries. Police had previously withheld the specific cause of death for investigative reasons.
Police Appeal to Threatened Witness
Investigators are now making a public plea for a key witness to come forward. According to police, surveillance video captured a critical incident around 7 p.m. on November 21, near the Joey Bell Tower, not far from where the victim was later found.
The footage allegedly shows the accused individual threatening a person with a machete. EPS believes this threatened individual is a vital witness to events surrounding the homicide and is urging them to contact police immediately. Authorities have not released details on the relationship between the witness and the accused or the victim.
Ongoing Investigation Seeks Answers
The case was transferred to the EPS Homicide Section following the initial discovery. The charge of second-degree murder indicates that the killing is alleged to have been intentional but without premeditation. The judicial process for Gladue is now underway.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns about violent crime in central Edmonton. The police continue to investigate the full sequence of events that led to Gambler's death and are relying on community cooperation, particularly from the unidentified witness, to complete their investigation.
