The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) announced the results of a massive investigation that spanned multiple communities and resulted in staggering seizures.
Multi-Million Dollar Haul
The coordinated raids netted an impressive array of illegal substances and weapons, including:
- 2.5 kilograms of fentanyl – enough for approximately 125,000 doses
- 1.5 kilograms of methamphetamine
- Over 1 kilogram of cocaine
- Significant quantities of psilocybin mushrooms and cannabis
- Multiple firearms including rifles and handguns
- Over $60,000 in cash believed to be proceeds of crime
Cross-Province Operation
ALERT's organized crime and gang team executed search warrants at multiple locations across the region, with significant operations in both Edmonton and Lloydminster, the border city that straddles Alberta and Saskatchewan. The investigation, dubbed Project Omen, specifically targeted the drug distribution activities of an organized crime group that had established supply lines across provincial boundaries.
"This was a sophisticated network that thought they could operate across jurisdictions," said an ALERT representative. "Our coordinated approach ensured we hit them at multiple points simultaneously."
Arrests and Charges
The investigation resulted in the arrest of multiple individuals now facing serious drug and weapons-related charges. Among those charged are:
- Two Edmonton residents facing multiple counts of drug trafficking
- One individual from Lloydminster charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking
- Additional suspects facing firearms offenses
The accused are scheduled to appear in court in the coming weeks as the investigation continues to unfold.
