Hamilton Police Uncover Illegal Dog Breeding Operation During Major Drug Bust
In a startling discovery, Hamilton Police have allegedly uncovered an illegal dog breeding operation during a significant drug bust at a dispensary east of downtown Hamilton. The investigation, which began in March 2026, led to the seizure of over $210,000 worth of illicit substances and the rescue of ten dogs from what authorities believe was an unlicensed breeding facility.
Drug Raid Reveals Hidden Animal Operation
The Central HEAT Unit executed a search warrant on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 4 Winds Medicine Lodge located at 421 King St. E. in the Landsdale area. Police had received information suggesting the business was involved in the illegal sale of cannabis and other controlled substances. During the raid, officers not only found a large quantity of drugs but also discovered eight puppies and two adult dogs that appeared to be part of an unauthorized breeding operation.
Hamilton Animal Services promptly intervened, taking custody of the animals to ensure their safety and well-being. The dogs were removed from the premises and placed under professional care while the investigation continues.
Substantial Drug Seizures and Charges Filed
The drug bust yielded a substantial haul of illegal substances, including:
- 109 grams of cocaine
- 146 grams of methamphetamine
- Two containers of GHB, commonly known as the date rape drug
- Over 1,000 prescription pills
- A spring-loaded knife classified as a prohibited weapon
Police also reported finding two operational laboratories believed to be used for producing crack cocaine. The estimated street value of all seized drugs totals approximately $210,000.
Three individuals now face multiple charges in connection with the raid:
- A 40-year-old Hamilton man
- A 24-year-old Hamilton woman
- A 46-year-old Toronto man
The charges include possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a prohibited weapon, proceeds of crime, and production of a Schedule I substance.
Business Location Raises Community Concerns
The 4 Winds Medicine Lodge is situated directly across from St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church and in close proximity to other religious institutions, schools, daycares, and shelters. This location has raised significant concerns within the community about criminal activity occurring near sensitive areas.
A website purporting to represent the business describes it as a "medicine, native arts and dispensary" establishment that sells various cannabis products including flowers, edibles, hash, and concentrates. An undated blog post claims the lodge is "the premier destination for high-quality cannabis in Hamilton, Ontario, and its surrounding towns."
Attempts to contact 4 Winds Medicine Lodge for comment were unsuccessful, with emails returning host errors and calls going directly to voicemail.
Ongoing Investigation and Community Impact
Police are continuing their investigation into both the drug operations and the illegal dog breeding activities. Authorities have urged anyone with additional information about the case to contact Staff Sgt. Jen Currie at 905-546-3833 or reach out to Crime Stoppers anonymously.
This case highlights the intersection of multiple criminal activities occurring simultaneously at a single location. The discovery of the dog breeding operation adds an additional layer of concern regarding animal welfare violations occurring alongside serious drug offenses.
The Hamilton Police Department has emphasized their commitment to addressing all aspects of criminal behavior uncovered during their investigations, particularly when vulnerable animals are involved alongside illegal drug operations that threaten community safety.
