IHIT Launches Investigation into Fatal Incident in Surrey's Green Timbers Area
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has launched a comprehensive investigation following the death of a man who was discovered injured and unresponsive in Surrey's Green Timbers area late Saturday morning. The regional homicide unit has identified the deceased as 45-year-old Zachery Rider, a resident of the Lower Mainland.
Police Response and Scene Details
Surrey police officers were dispatched to the 9800-block of Foxglove Drive, located in a forested area near a Fraser Health supportive housing facility, after receiving reports of an unresponsive man. Upon arrival, paramedics provided emergency medical treatment for the man's injuries, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
IHIT spokeswoman Sgt. Freda Fong confirmed that investigators are actively interviewing multiple witnesses to gather information about Rider's background and establish a detailed timeline of his movements leading up to the incident. "We are working diligently to understand the circumstances surrounding this tragic event," Fong stated.

In the initial stages of the investigation, police arrested another man in connection with the incident. However, IHIT has since released him without charges after determining his involvement in relation to the event. In an official news release, IHIT explained that investigators had the opportunity to assess his connection to the incident, leading to his release.
Authorities have emphasized that this appears to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing risk to public safety. "Based on our current findings, we believe this was an isolated event," the release noted, reassuring the community.
