Fifth Arrest Made in 2021 Murder of Giovanni Costa in Bolton

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have announced a fifth arrest in connection with the 2021 murder of Giovanni "John" Costa in Bolton, Ontario. The case, which spans over five years, involves two attempted murders of the victim's son and the fatal shooting of his father.

Details of the Shootings

The first incident occurred on November 12, 2020, in Vaughan, where Michael Costa was shot and seriously wounded in a cafe parking lot on Steeles Ave. W. Barely two months later, on January 18, 2021, two men entered a home on Harvest Moon Dr. in Bolton and opened fire, injuring Michael Costa again and killing his 65-year-old father, Giovanni Costa.

OPP investigators have determined that these two shootings are connected, leading to a complex investigation that has resulted in multiple arrests over the years.

Arrests and Charges

So far, five suspects have been taken into custody. The most recent arrest was Damion Ryan, 45, of Ottawa, on March 12, 2026. He faces charges of first-degree murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit murder. Previous arrests include:

  • Jordan Andall of Scarborough, charged with accessory after the fact to murder in January 2022.
  • Christopher Brown, 28, of Barrie, charged with attempted murder and related offenses in November 2025.
  • Neheniah Tirfe, 25, of Toronto, charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder in November 2025.
  • Elias Akhi, 32, of London, charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit murder in November 2025.

All accused individuals remain in custody, with court appearances scheduled.

Wanted Suspects and Ongoing Investigation

Two suspects are still at large and wanted on warrants. Filmon Fesshaghirgis, 27, of London, is wanted on an Ontario-wide warrant for first-degree murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit murder. Waheed Barakziye, 48, also of London, is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for similar charges, including two counts of attempted murder.

OPP urge the public to avoid these individuals and call 911 if spotted. The investigation is ongoing, with a $50,000 reward offered by the Ontario government for information leading to convictions.

Det.-Insp. Steven Martell of the OPP emphasized the importance of public assistance, stating, "With a fifth person arrested, the OPP's investigation continues as officers work to identify the whereabouts of two wanted individuals. If anyone has any information, we urge you to contact police immediately."
