Tragic Shooting in Brooklyn Claims Life of Seven-Month-Old Baby Girl

A devastating incident unfolded on a bustling Brooklyn street Wednesday afternoon, resulting in the death of a seven-month-old baby girl. According to New York City authorities, the infant was shot and killed while inside her stroller during a brazen attack that has shocked the community.

Details of the Horrific Incident

The shooting occurred at the intersection of Humboldt and Moore Streets in the East Williamsburg neighborhood. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch reported that surveillance footage shows the area was crowded with several adults, two people with strollers, and other children when two individuals on a moped stopped. The passenger then opened fire, unleashing chaos in the busy locale.

Video obtained by the New York Post from a nearby bodega captures the heart-wrenching moment when Lianna Charles-Moore realized her daughter, Kaori, had been struck by a bullet. Charles-Moore and the baby’s father had taken cover inside the shop with Kaori and her two-year-old brother when the shots rang out. While tending to her sobbing son, Charles-Moore pulled back the stroller’s visor and discovered Kaori had been shot in the head.

"I was hugging my son, and then when I looked to my left, my daughter was just there, lying there. She was shot in the head. She was just bleeding. It was just too much," Charles-Moore told the Post. The video shows her screaming and jumping in agony as the reality set in, with others in the store reacting in horror. A man, whose relationship to the family is unclear, rushed over, covered his mouth, and pushed the stroller outside.

Police Investigation and Suspect Manhunt

Kaori was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her brother also suffered a graze wound and received treatment at the same facility. Commissioner Tisch provided updates on the suspects, noting that they crashed into an oncoming car two blocks away from the shooting. The passenger was launched from the moped, taken to a hospital, and is now in custody as part of an unrelated investigation.

The other suspect remains at large, with the NYPD launching a massive manhunt. Tisch indicated that police believe the shooting is connected to gang activity, but the intended target is still unclear. In a statement, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani called the incident a "devastating reminder" of the ongoing challenges in combating gun violence, adding, "A life that had barely begun was taken in an instant. There are no words that can mend the heartbreak this family is feeling now."

Kaori had just learned to say "mama" and had not yet begun walking, according to her mother, highlighting the profound loss. The NYPD has released images of the suspects and is urging the public for any information that could aid in the investigation.
