Major Drug Bust in Montreal's Plateau District
Montreal police have successfully disrupted a significant drug trafficking network with an operation last Friday, November 7, 2025, leading to four arrests in the city's Plateau-Mont-Royal borough. The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) confirmed the details of the bust, which targeted the distribution of powerful narcotics.
Significant Seizure of Drugs and Cash
During the operation, officers seized a substantial quantity of illicit substances and money. The confiscated items include 36.95 grams of fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid at the heart of Canada's overdose crisis, 3.62 grams of ketamine, and 126 various pills. In addition to the drugs, police confiscated $25,975 in cash, believed to be the proceeds of illegal trafficking activities.
Suspects Face Trafficking Charges
Three of the individuals arrested have been formally charged and appeared at the Montreal courthouse. They are identified as Massimiliano Tilli, 22, Laurie Gagnon, 30, and François Coupal, 46. All three are facing charges of trafficking and possession for the purpose of trafficking. According to an SPVM statement, they will remain in custody until their next court proceedings. A fourth suspect was arrested at the scene and subsequently released.
Police indicated that the investigated network was operating primarily in the boroughs of Plateau-Mont-Royal, Ville-Marie, and Mercier–Hochelaga–Maisonneuve. The investigation was launched by the SPVM's dedicated drug squad, which collaborated with various police units and neighbourhood station personnel. The probe began after police received information that a very powerful narcotic similar to fentanyl was in circulation in these areas.
In its statement, the SPVM emphasized its commitment to tackling the overdose phenomenon, stating it is a priority. "In addition to combating illicit substance trafficking, several efforts are being made to secure people living with addiction by referring them to support resources," the police force added.
