EDMONTON, Alberta – Capital Power Corporation and the Canadian Football League are celebrating the conclusion of a meaningful 2025 season partnership that leveraged the power of sport to honour and empower Indigenous communities across Canada. The collaboration culminated in a significant $30,000 donation to the Indigenous-led organization, Indigenous Youth Roots.
Youth Clinics and Fan-Driven Fundraising
The partnership featured several key initiatives designed to create lasting connections. The Edmonton Elks and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats hosted youth flag football clinics in Alberta and Ontario, specifically for Indigenous youth. Led by CFL players, these clinics focused on developing football skills, promoting teamwork, and sharing the joy of the game.
Furthermore, as the Official Partner of the CFL’s Truth and Reconciliation Donation program, Capital Power committed to matching up to $30,000 in sales from the specially designed 2025 New Era sideline collection. This merchandise featured logos created by Indigenous artists, with all proceeds directed toward supporting Indigenous Youth Roots.
A Successful Donation Celebrated at the Eastern Final
Thanks to the generous support of CFL fans across the nation, the fundraising goal was met. Capital Power proudly presented the full $30,000 matching donation to Indigenous Youth Roots during the CFL Eastern Final game on November 8, 2025.
"At Capital Power, we believe in supporting future generations through meaningful initiatives that benefit the communities where we live and work," said Ferio Pugliese, Senior Vice President and Chief Corporate Officer at Capital Power. "Our collaboration with the CFL this season has been a meaningful step in strengthening our connections with Indigenous communities across Canada. We are proud to help empower the next generation of changemakers."
Empowering the Next Generation of Leaders
The CFL highlighted the broader impact of the initiative. "Sport has an incredible ability to bring people together through shared passion and strength," stated Tyler Keenan, the CFL’s Chief Revenue Officer. "The life lessons taught through football – communication, resilience, adaptability and much more – empower youth on and off the field."
For the recipient organization, the donation represents tangible support for its mission. "Thanks to Capital Power, the CFL, and the fans, we can continue to grow our activities that uplift Indigenous youth," said Conrad Prince, Executive Director of IYR. "With this generous donation, we can keep on building these spaces and create more opportunities for young people to thrive."
