RCMP in Nova Scotia have arrested a man accused of holding a woman against her will during a car ride from Moncton, New Brunswick, to the province. The arrest followed a 911 call from the victim after she managed to escape.
Incident details
On June 24, 2026, at approximately 1:30 p.m., police received a report of a woman being held against her will in a vehicle traveling from Moncton to Nova Scotia. The woman, whose identity has not been released, was able to escape the vehicle and call 911. RCMP officers located the suspect vehicle on Highway 104 near Salt Springs, Pictou County, and arrested the male driver without incident.
Charges and next steps
The suspect, a 34-year-old man from New Brunswick, is charged with forcible confinement, assault, and uttering threats. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Pictou provincial court on June 25, 2026. The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Chris Marshall.
“We are grateful the victim was able to get to safety and contact police,” said Cpl. Marshall. “Investigators are continuing to gather evidence to support the charges.”

RCMP are asking anyone with information about the incident or the suspect’s activities prior to the arrest to contact police or Crime Stoppers. The investigation is ongoing, and further charges may be laid. The victim is receiving support services.
