Avi Benlolo Condemns UN for Legitimizing Iran's Terrorism, Calls for Action
In a scathing critique, commentator Avi Benlolo has accused the United Nations of shamefully legitimizing the Islamic regime's terrorism in Iran, arguing that the international body's actions have emboldened a dangerous nuclear-aspiring state that must be stopped permanently.
Historical Parallels and Nuclear Threats
Benlolo draws direct comparisons between Iran's current leadership and historical atrocities, suggesting that had Adolf Hitler been confronted earlier, the Holocaust's six million Jewish deaths might have been prevented. He extends this analogy to Iran's regime, warning that a nuclear-armed Iran driven by religious supremacy and hatred toward Judeo-Christian values could lead to catastrophic loss of life on a massive scale.
"After 47 years of chaos and terrorism, like Hitler, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei got what he deserved," Benlolo states, referencing recent military actions against Iran.
UN's Controversial Appointments and Inaction
The article highlights what Benlolo describes as the UN's disturbing pattern of rewarding Iran despite its behavior. Iran was recently appointed to vice-chair the UN Commission for Social Development, chaired the UN Human Rights Council in 2023, and was elected as one of the vice-presidents of the UN General Assembly that same year.
"For decades, the UN failed to curtail Iran's nuclear ambitions and global terrorism," Benlolo writes, criticizing UN Secretary-General António Guterres for congratulating Iran on marking its 1979 revolution while quickly condemning U.S. and Israeli strikes against Iranian targets.
Iran's Record of Violence and Nuclear Ambitions
According to Benlolo's analysis, Iran has consistently rejected peaceful overtures in favor of developing ballistic and nuclear missiles. During recent negotiations with the United States, Iranian officials reportedly openly asserted their intention to enrich uranium at levels sufficient to produce approximately eleven nuclear weapons.
"They weren't hiding it. They were proud," Benlolo quotes U.S. envoy and negotiator Steve Witkoff as saying about Iranian officials' nuclear ambitions.
The article further alleges that while negotiating with the U.S. over the past two months, Iran continued violent actions against its own citizens, resulting in as many as 32,000 innocent deaths since the start of the year.
Global Terrorism Sponsorship
Benlolo identifies Iran as the world's largest sponsor of terrorism, detailing its support for proxies including Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis. He references specific terrorist operations allegedly conducted by Iran worldwide, including the bombings of the Israeli embassy and a Jewish community center in Argentina in 1992 and 1994 respectively.
The October 7 Hamas attack on Israel is described as the culmination of years of planning involving Iran, which trained and funded Hamas while creating what Benlolo calls a "ring of fire" surrounding the Jewish state.
International Response and Canadian Position
The article notes that Iranians themselves have been pleading for help from world leaders, with hundreds of thousands taking to streets in Canadian cities including Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver. This public outcry has created confusion about the Canadian government's messaging, according to Benlolo.
While Prime Minister Mark Carney told the United Arab Emirates that "Canada has long supported the imperative of neutralizing" the Iranian threat, he simultaneously implored all parties, including the United States and Israel, to respect international rules and de-escalate hostilities.
The Necessity of Force
Benlolo concludes that while diplomacy and peace are always preferred to violence and war, sometimes force becomes the only way to stop what he characterizes as "absolute evil." He argues that the lessons of history, particularly the Holocaust, must guide contemporary responses to regimes that threaten global security through terrorism and nuclear proliferation.
The commentary presents a stark warning about the consequences of international inaction and the UN's perceived legitimization of a regime that has openly declared hostility toward America, Israel, and Western values.
