Two men are facing a combined total of 98 charges in connection with a series of mailbox break-ins that occurred in northeast Calgary. Authorities believe that more than 35 victims have been affected, with stolen items including cheques, credit cards, and identification documents.
Incident Details
Calgary police responded to reports of two individuals breaking into community mailboxes in the area of Skyview Point Heath and Skyview Point Green N.E. at approximately 2:30 a.m. on April 21. The suspects' vehicle was located by police with the assistance of the HAWCS helicopter, and a traffic stop was conducted. During the stop, officers seized a large quantity of mail believed to have been stolen from mailboxes, as well as break-and-enter tools, from the vehicle. The two men were arrested and taken into custody.
Charges Filed
Kulwinder Singh, 35, of Chestermere, is facing a total of 44 charges. These include 38 counts of theft of mail, three counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, and one count each of mischief under $5,000, possession of break-in instruments, and possession of a stolen credit card.
Jagroop Singh, 27, of Calgary, is facing 54 charges. His charges include 38 counts of theft of mail, six counts of possession of a stolen credit card, two counts each of possession of identity documents, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of stolen property under $5,000, and one count each of mischief under $5,000, disguise with intent, possession of break-in instruments, and possession of stolen property over $5,000.
Court Appearances
Kulwinder Singh is scheduled to appear in court on May 1, while Jagroop Singh is scheduled to appear on April 30.
