The war in the Middle East involving Israel, the United States, and Iran has entered its 79th day, with fresh military actions and diplomatic warnings dominating the headlines. U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Iran, stating that if a peace agreement is not reached, the nation will face what he described as "a very bad time."
Trump's Warning to Iran
Speaking to French media, President Trump emphasized the urgency for Iran to negotiate a deal with Washington. "If they don't, they're going to have a bad time. A very bad time. They had better make a deal," Trump said, as reported by the Independent. This warning comes amid ongoing tensions and a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah.
Iran's foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, responded by expressing skepticism about the United States' intentions. He pointed out that contradictory messages from the Trump administration have made Tehran "reluctant about the real intentions of Americans." Araghchi stated, "We are in doubt about their seriousness."
Drone Strike at Abu Dhabi Nuclear Plant
In a related development, authorities in Abu Dhabi responded to a fire caused by a drone strike on an electrical generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the Al Dhafra Region. The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation confirmed that no injuries were reported, radiological safety levels remained unaffected, and the plant's essential systems are operating normally. The statement did not attribute blame for the suspected drone attack.
Fresh Israeli Strikes on Lebanon
Despite a fragile ceasefire, Israeli strikes targeted eastern and southern Lebanon. State media reported that two Israeli strikes hit the town of Sohmor in eastern Lebanon's Bekaa valley, with additional strikes across southern Lebanon. A Hezbollah lawmaker described Lebanon's negotiations with Israel as a "dead-end." The Israeli military also confirmed that one of its soldiers was killed in combat in southern Lebanon, bringing its losses to 21 since the war with Hezbollah began in early March.
Pakistan's Mediation Efforts
Pakistan's interior minister, Mohsin Naqvi, arrived in Tehran "to facilitate" peace talks between Iran and the United States, which have stalled despite the fragile ceasefire. This visit follows the recent trip of Pakistan's influential army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, to Tehran. The diplomatic efforts aim to bridge the gap between the two nations and prevent further escalation.
The conflict, now in its 79th day, continues to draw international concern as both military and diplomatic actions unfold across the region.
