Former Pence Adviser Olivia Troye Denounces Trump's Religious Posturing
Olivia Troye, a former adviser to Vice President Mike Pence who has become a vocal critic of Donald Trump and is now campaigning for Congress as a Democrat, this week sharply criticized the former president's efforts to present himself as a person of deep faith. In a recent interview, Troye expressed strong disapproval of Trump's actions and rhetoric, which she views as hypocritical and destabilizing.
Troye Supports 25th Amendment Efforts Against Trump
Speaking to journalist Jim Acosta, Troye voiced her agreement with Democratic lawmakers' preliminary moves to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office. She argued that his behavior demonstrates a lack of stability and fitness for leadership. "I mean, look, he's out there punching at the Pope and then he posts that, and Donald Trump is a healer? Yeah, give me a break," Troye said, referencing Trump's recent attack on Pope Leo and his subsequent sharing of an AI-generated image that depicted him as Jesus. Trump later deleted the image and claimed it showed him as a doctor, but the incident sparked widespread controversy.
Personal Reflections on Trump's Conduct in the White House
Troye, who served in the White House, added a pointed personal observation: "I never saw that asshole pray once when I was there in the White House." This remark underscores her firsthand experience with Trump's lack of religious practice, contrasting sharply with his public assertions of faith. Growing up in a Catholic household, Troye found the Trump-as-Jesus post particularly offensive, stating it "was infuriating and enraging to me and a lot of my family members."
Call for Urgent Action by Lawmakers
Emphasizing the gravity of the situation, Troye described Trump's actions as "blasphemy and hypocrisy" and labeled them "astounding." She urged lawmakers to "move forward ASAP" with the 25th Amendment, asserting that Trump is "completely unfit" for office. Her comments highlight ongoing political tensions and the deep divisions within American politics regarding Trump's legacy and conduct.
This development comes as Troye continues her congressional campaign, positioning herself as a Democrat committed to holding Trump accountable. Her outspoken criticism adds to the chorus of voices questioning Trump's suitability for public office and his portrayal of religious devotion.
