The alarming escalation of violence by career criminal Kyle Douglas Prouse, who allegedly shot a security guard during a jewelry heist at Fairview Mall, has prompted law enforcement to intensify efforts to capture him. On Monday, Insp. Kristy Smith of the Toronto Police Hold Up Squad and Toronto Crime Stoppers Chair Sean Sportun announced an enhanced cash reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to Prouse's arrest.
Details of the Incident
The victim was met with violence for simply doing his job, Smith told reporters. We are working around the clock to identify this individual. The shooting occurred on Tuesday, April 21, around 10:05 a.m., when Prouse allegedly shot a security team member during a jewelry robbery at Fairview Mall. The guard was discovered in a stairwell with serious injuries but is expected to recover.
Smith added that Prouse's dangerous behaviour was escalating. Prouse is wanted in connection with a series of Toronto robberies and break-and-enters. The gunman managed to escape with some jewelry from the robbery. When the security guard confronted him, the shooting began. The suspect fled the area in a white van, travelling southbound on Don Mills Rd. The white van was later recovered in the Shaughnessy Blvd. and George Henry Blvd. area.
Suspect's Escape and Vehicle Switch
He left the area where he dumped the van for a black Honda Accord. The enhanced reward is time-sensitive and will remain in effect until Tuesday, June 30, 2026.
