Two months after a 39-year-old man was found dead in Saskatoon's Meadowgreen neighbourhood, police have charged a 27-year-old man with manslaughter. Richard Kelly Cross appeared in Saskatoon provincial court on Wednesday, charged in connection with the homicide that occurred on April 9 in the 500 block of Avenue X South.
According to a news release from police on Wednesday, Cross was arrested on Tuesday at the Saskatoon jail. He made his first court appearance Wednesday morning and is scheduled to return to court on June 18.
In addition to manslaughter, Cross faces 11 other charges, including unlawful confinement, assault with a weapon, and assault causing bodily harm. Police were called to the scene around 3:45 a.m. on April 9 after reports of an injured man. Officers found an unresponsive man who was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The victim's name has not been released.
This death marked Saskatoon's fourth homicide of the year. To date, seven homicides have been recorded in the city, with four occurring in April alone.
